|Not all Syrian refugees are bearded children working for ISIS, you bigot!|
Since the Syrian "refugee crisis" blew up a couple of years back, a lot of celebrities and politicians have signalled pretty hard on how we should all "open our hearts and homes" to these unfortunate people.
While most famous people were happy to just "welcome" refugees in a general sense, some went so far as to actually offer their own homes to house refugees. The moral signalling was literally that intense!
Among those who made such generous offers were Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, professional moral signaller Bob Geldof, "elfish" Labour politician Yvette Cooper, actress Emma Thompson, and footballer Stan Collymore.
Geldof took the moral signalling cake when he said:
"I'm prepared – I'm lucky, I've a place in Kent and a flat in London – me and (partner) Jeanne would be prepared to take three families immediately in our place in Kent and a family in our flat in London, immediately, and put them up until such time as they can get going and get a purchase on their future."
But words are one thing, actions another. None of the above have bothered to put up a single refugee for a single night.
In fact, I have only heard one example of a VIP putting up a Syrian refugee in his own house -- Labour peer Lord Bassam. He is the most senior British politician to take a refugees into his house.
But, guess what, the refugee in question is a 28-year-old Syrian girl, who just happens to be "lovely" and well-educated too, as Lord Bassam explained to the press:
"We've currently got a young Syrian woman living with us. She's been living with us for four or five months now. She's lovely. She managed to get out of Syria to do a Masters and she’s finishing that."
