A specter is haunting Austria, the specter of Adolf Hitler -- or at least his doppelganger -- who has been seen in several locations in the town of Braunau, Hitler's birthplace.

Just dressing up as the early-20th-century dictator is actually a criminal offence in Austria, as Police have issued an arrest warrant for the man, the charge being “public glorification of Hitler’s personality.”

The Hitler doppelganger dresses like Hitler and has the same haircut and of course Hitler's famous mustache. The regional newspaper Oberoesterreichische Nachrichten reported that the double has been seen recently by many residents. His age is estimated to be between 25 and 30.

“I have seen this man in Braunau many times and wonder if it means something,” one local man said in a Facebook post.

The Hitler impersonator has been photographed in front of Hitler’s birthplace on at least one occasion. Another resident saw him in a local bookstore, browsing through magazines about World War II, and he has also been seen in a local bar, where he gave his name as "Harald Hitler."

The Austrian law against "glorifying Hitler" can include a wide range of behaviour and carries severe penalties. In January an Austrian court sentenced a 38-year-old man to 33 months in prison for selling songs with titles such as "Adolf Hitler Lives" and "Goebbels for All," and for displaying Nazi tattoos.
